CQ from PA0JCX
I’m Xan. Geeking out since 1988. Ham radio operator since 2024.
Started as ham radio operator (radiozendamateur in Dutch) in july 2024, after obtaining my Novice License (N-amateur). My callsign was PD2XAN and I’ve made some great contacts with this call. Got to know a lot of local and national ham radio operators, many of which I’m still in contact with.
I started with an Anytone 878UV handheld transceiver and was mainly on the waves using DMR via the local repeater.
By the end of 2024 I became more interested in HF and longer range VHF/UHF possibilities, so I saved up for my first ‘real’ rig, the Yaesu FTX-1 Field.
This rig opened up a lot of possibilities for me and I started tinkering a lot with making my own HF and dualband VHF/UHF antenna’s with mixed results.
Especially the 80-meter band, which provides NVIS-capabilities during nighttime, had my interest. But I needed a F-license to operate on that band.
So, in late 2025, after some studying for the Full license exam and passing this exam, I’ve finally become a F-license ham radio operator.
Because of how the Dutch telecom agency (RDI) uses different national callsign prefixes, I had to change my callsign. The choice for me was easy: PA0JCX; the same callsign my grandfather had.
I hope to make a lot of interesting, rememberable and fun QSO’s using this callsign.
Besides radio technology, my hobbies and activities are playing guitar, electronics and embedded systems in general, human rights activism and having a walk outside.
